Marek Napiórkowski represents the very top of Polish jazz guitar. Two worlds seem to co-exist in his fascinating improvised stories - the first is the world of intellectual jazz, which is founded on thorough knowledge of jazz harmony and the ability of free and assured navigation along the winding meanders of melodic waterways, the second is the vivid and unrestricted emotionality, which makes Marek Napiórkowski's guitar speak in a way understandable for all listeners, regardless of their general musical knowledge. Napiórkowski is a poet with perfect technique. Marek Napiórkowski has played and recorded with musicians such as drummer Mino Cinelu, keyboardist Adam Holzman, harmonica virtuosos Gregoire Maret and Sugar Blue, saxophonist Klaus Doldinger (Passport), as well as the top of the jazz scene, well known to the Polish audience - Tomasz Stańko, Henryk Mi¶kiewicz, Urszula Dudziak, Ewa Bem, Dorota Mi¶kiewicz, Wojciech Karolak, Janusz Muniak, Tomasz Szukalski, Krzysztof ¦cieranski, Jan "Ptaszyn" Wroblewski. More than once did he cooperate with Anna Maria Jopek. In 2002, he took part in project Anna Maria Jopek & Friends with Pat Metheny Upojenie. In 2007, Napiórkowski was invited to work on the singer's album called ID, where he recorded several pieces with the legendary bassist Christian McBride. The artist released two albums on his own: NAP and the acoustic album Wolno. Both were nominated for the Fryderyk Music Awards under Jazz Album of the Year and Jazz Musician of the Year categories. Wolno reached the Gold status.
The musician is the leader of his own quartet, he is also co-leader of a band called Funky Groove (the first album of the band has been placed in the Universal Worldwide Jazz Catalogue, both albums have been chosen the albums of the year by the readers of the professional music magazine Gitara i Bas). In the Jazz Top survey of the readers of the Jazz Forum magazine, Funky Groove has been selected the electrical band of the year twice, and Marek Napiórkowski has been near the top of the ranking under the guitarist of the year category for several years.
